The presidential election season will be behind us shortly, and not a moment too soon. Did any of you attend Either of the conventions in August, or have any close encounters with a candidate? We'd love to hear your "strange but true" tales from Campaign 1996, so share them with us!

Our own Alex Terry had his moment in the national spotlight in May, when he was featured in a Wall Street Journal article on young entrepreneurs titled "Restless Youth." Alex was highlighted as an example of an entrepreneur who got his start by running a campus business while in college. Did any of you out there buy a stereo from Alex way back when? How about a huge orange Cadillac convertible? According to Alex, he bought that car for $800, fixed it up, and sold it on campus for $1,500.

"It is a cool car if you are a Dartmouth fraternity brother," he says. Since graduation, Alex has started three businesses, all related to the Internet. Alex is also coordinating the electronic communications for our class. Check out the '87 home page he has set up at . You can leave a message on the bulletin board, or add your name to the 1987. e-mail directory.

Erik Meidl may not know this, but a ten-year-old picture of him appeared recently in the local Upper Valley paper, the Valley News. The article actually featured Peter Coughlin, who was Erik's little brother through the Tucker Foundation Big Brother/Big Sister program. Little Peter is now a college student himself, and he credits Erik with teaching him the value of commitment, time management, and avoiding self-destructive behavior. My sources tell me that Erik is now a doctor in Hannibal, Mo. He and Peter stay in touch, and I'm sure Erik is proud to know that during his time at Dartmouth he made such a lasting impact upon one young life.

I heard from Lisa Pabich Damon recently. For the past year she has been working on her Ph.D. in environmental economics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She was just awarded a fellowship from the Environmental Protection Agency, which will support her coursework and research over the next year. She is working on questions related to how corporations can reduce their release of pollution into the environment without compromising their profitability and competitiveness. She already has an M.B.A. and husband Bruce is working on an M.D./Ph.D.—they may soon set the class record for most letters following their names!

And finally, a newsy letter from MichPoulin Gardner: "My husband RustyGardner and I are in Cincinnati with our two children, Jake (23 months) and Abby (six months), and our two dogs. We see Edwina Brandon every so often. She works for the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and loves it. We saw Dave Wiser a few times last year. He and his wife have a little girl who is about two. ChristineWichers is a lawyer in Pittsburgh.

"Tom and Laura Woolman Gamer have recently moved to the Boston area. Nick Midis is doing his orthopedics residency in Louisville, Ky. Mary BethMasterson Manolis has moved to L.A. where she is doing a clinical psychology internship. Bethamy Aronow Landeck was married on New Year's Eve and is living in Stamford, Conn. She has joined an ob-gyn practice there. Faith SpurrierSherlock is in the Boston area with her husband and two boys." Thanks for the update, Mich!
