Carl Failmezger was profiled recently in his local paper. Here are the highlights: After Dartmouth he received his J.D. and M.B.A. from William & Mary, where he served on the Honor Code Council. He worked briefly as an accountant for Coopers & Lybrand while studying for the bar exam. Once licensed to practice law, he opened his own practice in Lancaster County, Va. While building his practice, he also worked as a substitute teacher at Lancaster High School, and he is currently a volunteer reader at the Lancaster Primary School. He has been a member of the Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department since 1994 and recently restored the Lancaster Hotel.

Last fall I mentioned Martin McCarter's success in the 1997 Boston Marathon. He wrote in to say that several other classmates also ran the race, most notably ChrisCarter, who has several top-100 finishes under his belt. Martin is no longer able to do much running as he is in the midst of his surgery residency. If you thought you recognized Martin, shrouded in cap and gown, in the background of a photo in last fall's special Time magazine issue on "Heroes of Medicine," you were right. That was he.

Sudie Naimi DiGiovanni wrote to announce the birth of Cameron Christopher in September. Son Nicholas will be two in May, so Sudie and husband Chris DiGiovanni have their hands full over at "Boys R Us." In July they will move from Manhattan to Seattle'for Chris' next fellowship. More baby news: Shannon Finnegan and husband Mike Burchmore are the proud parents of Tara, born last June. Shannon works half-time at a law firm in San Francisco, and Alike is in health economics at Genentech. Also in the Bay Area is EricWeidman. He is a staff radiologist fulfilling his air force commitment at Travis AFB. Eric's wife, Diane (Cornell '87), practices psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente. The Weidmans have a very social, happy little boy named Matt, who will be two this summer. Eric writes: "I regret the Dartmouth reunions and get-togethers that my medical career has forced me to miss but am now finding more free time."

Emil Chynn wrote for the first time since graduation and is proud to no longer be a "Class Notes virgin." He writes: "I finished my cornea and refractive surgical fellowship at Emory University and have just moved back to the Big Apple, where I've bought a one bedroom in the West Village for twice as much as I was hoping to spend. (Why didn't I stay in Georgia?) I am working at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital. I hung out with Tim Moore, Evan Azrilant, and Brian Hicks at several functions at the Yale/Dartmouth Club in the city.

Debbi Jayne Seaver took advantage of a quiet day at work to send me some news. She married Jim Seaver last May in Berkeley, where she is a massage therapist and is also studying to be a yoga teacher. Classmates witnessing the nuptials included Dan Keane, John Flaherty, Liza RebetzMacKinnon, Kim Sergio, Mary Smyers,Stef Mullins, Shannon Finnegan, MauriceHolmes, and David Foster. Debbi adds that Dave was married last April and Mary will be married this fall. Liza had her second daughter last fall. Debbi and her husband hope to move to a small town in the mountains of Colorado or Utah when she has completed her training, and she's looking for suggestions of great places.

Once again, plan to be in Hanover on September 12 for an '87 mini-reunion!
