All I can say is that if any of us is in legal trouble, we'll have no problem finding sound advice. You'll soon know why. David Engvall wrote from the D.C. law office of Hogan & Hartson, where he does corporate and securities work. In fact, his freshman UGA, Steve Hartman '85, just joined the firm and sits right down the hall. This past May, David married Maria Petaros; they honeymooned in romantic Italy.

On his way to a Softball game, Tony Stearns let me know that he's out in the San Fran ("never say 'Frisco") area working about three-quarters of the year as "maybe one of the oldest paralegals on the planet" and spending the other quarter of the year writing either his murder mystery (set in a law firm) or his war novel (set in Vietnam). "Taking off three months out of the year certainly helps," he writes. He'll also be a May groom ('97) to his longtime honey Diana Solari. Dottie Foley is an attorney in the office of the general counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice, after having clerked for a federal judge. Being in a nonpolitical office allows her to offer unbiased advice, so, her job "does not depend upon the vagaries of the electorate." She is still singing and has discovered the joys of gardening, and she's married to a lawyer. Deb (Kruter) Eckberg is quite busy in Minnesota. Her son, Joshua, is in the "terrible twos," and she's expecting #2 in January. Deb is completing her Ph.D. in sociology with that "darn dissertation" to put together as well as working as a senior statistical analyst for Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections. She's researching applied criminal justice, which is appropriate to her grad work. Deb keeps in contact with Marion Halliday Lewis, who has two sons, Robert (two years old) and Samuel (one year). We can add Marion to the lawyer list; she's an attorney in Louisville, Ky.

Rob Popper is living in London, having freelanced in CD-ROM and website production for a year. He just started a research fellowship at the London College of Printing, which "will probably get me another master's degree and maybe a Ph.D. after a few more sessions down at the pub or on the squash court with the dean."

Heather (Peters) Dolloff works in Portland, Maine, for a management consulting firm doing PR for Maine companies. She enjoys the flexibility of a MWF schedule in order to take care of her fiveyear-old and two-year-old sons. When she had written to me, she had just visited a Russian fish-processing ship anchored off Casco Bay. Now that's different.

Harry Carrel, his wife Nadia and twoyear-old daughter Alina Sophie are living in Cos Cob, Conn. Harry is the director of telecommunications investments for American International Group, and Nadia is an associate at the law firm of Rogers & Wells in mid-town Manhattan. Brad Mencher and his wife, Shelley, welcomed their second child, Aaron Jacob, last October. Brad is an assistant region manager for NCR in D.C. His region does all of the computer support for NCR customers in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. Kirk LeCompte and his wife, Cathy, are trading the sun of Laguna Beach for the snow of Burlington, Mass. He will be marketing director at Watermark, claimed by many to be the top-selling software product carrying the Designed for Microsoft BackOffice logo. The firm delivers software components to capture, store, and share documents. Enjoy the holidays! Next month you'll learn about our class projects.
