Walt Petke's wife, Mary, writes that "Walt is slowing down but not all that much—he is still teaching German in adult education in the winter and is just as enthusiastic about sports as he ever was."
Charlie Nayor sent a copy of a note to the Hanover Inn reserving a twin-bedded room and bath for the 1996 mini-reunion weekend. Lowie Haas wrote me a warm and complimentary note re: my first two columns. He was pleased his son Fred was mentioned; you may remember Fred from his lecture about synthesizers—and you may know that he is regarded as one of the country's finest saxophonists and jazz pianists.
Bill Mathers, helpful as always, called to report the sad news that Carl Funke has passed away. An obituary will appear as soon as information is received from College records. O. Fay Allen sent a note on September 27—"Just returned from an exciting trip along the Oregon trail with our son John '62, of Signature Films Owings, Md. We traveled from Council Bluffs, lowa, to Fort Laramie, Wyo. At the Friday night dinner at Reg Pierce's Inn, during the mini-reunion, Sandy Brown's widow, Lois, chatted with me, reminiscing about what a great doctor and great guy he was. I told her about a niece of mine who was his patient because she wanted to have children but was unable to conceive; she subsequently had two daughters and a son.
Received an interesting note from BillGahagan, with a picture of the Gardnar Mulloy (tennis) Senior Men's 80-plus Cup team. The North American team was victorious in an international competition, 15 matches to three. Bill reached the quarterfinals of the 80's singles division.
