BAKER'S DOZEN

To THE EDITOR OF THE DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE:

It would be so nice to see an occasional picture of Baker.

Sincerely,

Bob Chaloner '53

Dear Bob:Sure.Here's a whole

You could say that Baker Library was built as a formof argument. Back in the twenties tke president of ike Oxford Union debating society referred to Dartmouth as tke college with the largest gym and the smallest library. President Ernest Martin Hopkins 01 took tke gibe to heart. Baker resulted in 1929.

Over the years, the College's fitness facilities grew while Baker strained at the seams. In 1992, John W. Berry 44, George Berry 66, the Loren M. Berry Foundation, and George F. Baker III. the great-grandson of library benefactor George Baker, gave $30 million for an ambitious new wing, thus rendering the College immune from the cracks of snooty Oxfordians.
