APRIL 1996 Ralph Maynard,

Fitting indeed was the decision by the Troy, N.Y., schools to establish the Edward C. Picken Troy High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and to recognize the first members on induction day at the homecoming meeting of Troy's and Schenectady's football teams at Edward C. Picken Memorial Field last autumn.

Some years back rumors about the outstanding community service rendered by Art Speigel began to emanate from New Mexico. It wasn't, however, until his sons, Jeff '68 and Art III, sent a copy of the fall issue newsletter of the Albuquerque Petroleum Club that I learned in some detail of Art's work. I quote, "Arthur Spiegel, a true New Mexico legend. The Santa Fe Opera, the New Mexico Symphony, the June Music Festival, the Museum of Natural Flistory, the United Way, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, the Albuquerque Art Museum all of the city's great institutions have been assisted in some way by the legendary Spiegel. Some have actually been saved by him and might not be in existence today if it were not for him. He has mentored and coached and goaded and chided, and most of all, supported so many of us in Albuquerque that he truly earns the word 'awesome.'" Art retired from his Fiduciary Trust recently, and the Petroleum Club threw a fabulous dinner party for Libby and him. Messages from a dozen of you will be reported in my next Class Notes. Meanwhile, get ready for the 65th in June!
