APRIL 1996 Dick Jachens,

We all know that Dr. GeneStollerman had a long and distinguished career teaching and performing research at Northwestern, Tennessee, and, finally, Boston University. But did you know that Gene was named a master of the American College of Rheumatology in October? The award is one of the highest honors that this professional association can bestow on a member. All we can add is a hearty wah-hoo-wah, Gene.

Dan Provost, out in Rancho Mirage, Calif., has recovered nicely from his December 1994 heart attack and is regularly playing tennis and working out in the gym. He and Carol are anxiously awaiting the May completion of a dream home in their golf and tennis community. Congratulations to the happy couple on their fifth year of wedded bliss. Meanwhile in that eastern Mecca called Hanover, Bill andJean Hotaling surprised everyone by giving up their beautiful colonial home for a condo. As of March 20 you will find them at 6 Berrill Farms, Hanover, NH 03755, same phone (603) 643-6711. Can we all still park in your driveway at reunions, Bill?

Steve and Lucy Winship enjoyed the early and bountiful snow this winter up in Concord, N.H. area. When they weren't skiing, they played tennis, indoors, natcherly. They also reported friendly visits by Frank and Shirley Simpson, Boband Joan Frondorf and George andMillie Thompson. All are fine and looking forward to the gala 55th on June 10-12. The stellar efforts of Don Hanks and VicSchneider are sure to make this Reunion a happy one for all attendees.

A Christmas note from Dr. BobFerguson in Pittsburgh reports that he is troubled with gouty arthritis. That's a tough battle for an orthopedic surgeon, but Bob keeps busy writing and painting and he has a book coming out this spring titled Please Don't Get Sick. That goes for you too, Bob.

Another man with distressing health problems is Tinner Gordon in Omaha. After a long and productive career in ice manufacturing and many civic activities, including the Alumni Council, Tinner is ailing from recurring prostate cancer and the effects of radiation which have attacked his pelvis. In addition, his wife Betty is in a nursing home, wheelchair bound. Classmates should call him at (402) 391-4782 or drop him a line at 3003 Paddock Plaza, #722, Omaha, NE 68124-2918.

Rog Hoffman in Ipswich, Mass., has more cheerful news. According to a newspaper write-up, Rog and Jean have been busy volunteers at Beverly Hospital for the past six years. After open heart surgery seven years ago, Rog and his wife decided to put their time to good use in the community and they've done just that and also encouraged other retirees to follow suit.

I'm running out of space here before I can recount the results of my December 1995 survey of 50 randomly selected classmates. Of the 35 respondents, the vote for president was quite even between Clinton and any Republican/Bob Dole. However, on the weighty question of underwear preference, the briefs (a la Clinton) lagged behind the boxer shorts, with a few northern votes for long johns. We '41s must believe in diversity. More fascinating figures next month.
