Flutist or flautist? "Flutist!" insists Ron Schecter, Montclair, N.J., whose wife, Peggy, is artistic director of the renowned New Jersey Chamber Music Society, as well as principal flutist for the Queens (N. Y.) Symphony and teacher at Montclair State University. Ron, an accomplished cellist, had just seen Gabriel Macht off-Broadway in Steve Martin's Picasso at the Lapin Agile and was anxious to call in congratulations to SteveMacht. Ron, who also practices real-estate law, recently set music for "The Four Quartets" by T.S. Eliot to the cello. The Schecters' daughter, Nicole, studies at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Investigative TV producer JohnMerrow caused a stir after exposing a financial relationship between Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CHADD), a national support group, and Ciba-Geigy, which makes and markets Ritalin, a prescription drug used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) in children. The Merrow documentary, produced for PBS, may have prompted the U.S. Department of Education to withdraw distribution of a video on ADD which features CHADD board members. Bill Bottger, whose specialty is employment law, is defending Torrance, Calif., in a case brought by the Justice Department for alleged discrimination against minority job applicants. He is in his 25th year with Latham & Watkins, a 500-lawyer Southern California firm. Carl is earning a doctorate in political science at Vanderbilt, Christina graduated from Tulane with honors in Italian, Fritz is at California State Humboldt, and Erica is at the College of the Redwoods. Michael Losee has been named director of the office of industry relations of the American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C., following a long and distinguished career at Monsanto, most recently as head of research and development for the NutraSweet division. He has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Lehigh.
