If you ever knew the circumstances of this column, that in itself would be enough. At present, your secretary is earning eleven cents per hour with Uncle Sam. It's a matter of days before I'll start selling pencils during our cigarette break.

John "Snake" Di lorio enjoys the same leisure here at Fort Dix. We feasted over a brunch of powdered eggs and shared our "common experience" of being a part of the army.

On May 4, Bob Slater was married to Lyn Nagel of Wellesley and Lake Forest, Ill. Dave Kerr and Curt Jones were there to help observe the occasion. The Mr. and Mrs. plan to live at Fort Ord, Calif., where Bob is currently stationed with the army.

P.F.C. Tom Taranta is currently training at the South Eastern Signal Corps School at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga. His wife is expecting the stork around September 18.

Pete Rath is still in Bogota, Colombia, teaching English to 65 Colombian soldiers. He's found time enough to get engaged to the Senorita Myrian Forero Cortes and plans to be married in Panama in June. Pete happily reports to his Phi Gam fans that he hasn't been in a barroom since December 14, henpecked is the one solution to the new Mr. Rath.

The big news from the '56's at Tuck School is the annual bike race and the June weddings. The bike race was held on Saturday morning of Green Key, and was won by a team of first year students from Beta. Bill Zales gave a running play-by-play of the race, while Murray Kaplan was the starter.

Cliff Phalen's fiancee, Julie Gaines, was "Miss Bike" for this year's frolic. Cliff and Julie will be married on June 15. Bill Zales, Dusty Johnstone, Al Booth, and Tom Pencheon are to be ushers in the wedding.

Jack Billhardt wed Pat Lang of Seattle on May 27 in New York. Dick Zock was best man, while Bill Beagle, John Parke, and Dick Leaman were in the wedding party. After the wedding, the couple motored to Texas and Lt. Billhardt's new-found career in the air force.

Howie Clinch and Deborah Robertson, a '57 graduate of Wheaton College, will be married on June 22. Bert Whitemore, Ken Thomas, and Bill Kieger will be ushers.

Dick Leaman will also marry a Wheaton graduate this June. Dick and Helen Brown will be married in Lancaster on June 15. Howie Clinch will be an usher.

Frank Strong will marry Barbara Bavier on June 15 in Naugatuck, Conn. Bill King, Les Reid, and Dick Thorp will be in the wedding party.

As I have finished all the letters and news items sent my way this past month, the column could fold right here. However, I'll ad lib a bit longer to save face for all you non-existent pals.

Our class has been doing fair in the Alumni Fund drive so far. As usual, the same people who used some effort at Hanover are among the first to kick in and help. Yet, there are sizeable donations from the Class as a whole. Everyone on the executive committee hopes some of those who haven't let loose with a few bucks will do so soon.

Your column will return to form next month after my basic training period expires. Until then, I want everyone to write and then you'll really have a "meaty" column. Otherwise, it will remain slim pickin's. Remember, it takes all the '56ers to write this column, I just copy your thoughts.

Sam Peterson '56, snapped on the dock of the Golden Horn, Istanbul, Turkey, is teaching at Robert College in Istanbul.
