The following class note comes from John C. Ferries '59. Apparently, William J. Ryan is a neighbor of John's. John and Paul Caravatt '45, another neighbor, spent a Sunday afternoon with Bill Ryan to help him celebrate his 98th birthday on January 13. As John puts it, "At the rate he's going, Bill is a shoo-in to live beyond the year 2000. If so, and considering that he was born in 1898, Bill would have the incredible distinction of living in three different centuries."
Bill lives at home with his son, makes his own meals, and enjoys brisk walks with his Dartmouth Indian-head cane with names of his classmates inscribed on it. Bill regaled John and Paul and their wives with tales of his undergraduate days at Dartmouth. Probably the most amusing one was the fermented cider container that had overstayed' its welcome and exploded all over the room! Bill also recalled the "College Sing" which took place on the same day each spring. Each class would sing a medley of songs in a different traditional location.
As the class secretary for 1918, I want to thank John for sending me the news on Bill and I want to congratulate Bill. The class of 1918 lives! Wah-hoo-wah!
