Pete Foster is steadfastly pushing development of a Dartmouth Web page whereby all computer literates with a Big Green background can communicate with each other through cyberspace on matters of interest. JohnHatheway is checking in Hanover, where he understands the College supports the concept. Pete wants to hear from any '48s at his electronic mail address in Wallingford, Conn., . (Pete, pleaselet-meknowhowitgoes.)

Hatheway, Bud Gedney, and LloydKrumm advise that the tradition of a monthly '48 luncheon will begin in April this year on the first Tuesday of each month at noon in the Norwich Inn. Quite a few '48s live in the Upper Valley and within driving distance in New England so it is hoped many will attend as an opportunity to strengthen the common bonds between members of our grand old class. (Call a '48 in the Hanover contingent to confirm a particular meeting. Should be fun.)

Great to hear from Ham Chase '47 that the formerly nearly crippled mountaineer Phil Viereck has successfully received two aluminum hip implants. The operations were so successful that Moosejaw is now once again bouncing over his beloved Greens and Whites "like a young billy-goat." (One of the things I'll not forget about our hero is the difficulty some friends once had in writing a poem about him in which words had to rhyme with his nickname. Maybe something like, "There was a young man named Moosejaw, Who accidentally stepped on a doodaw; He said I admit---, " I'm told the effort was abandoned. Anyway, nice going, Jaw.)

Walt Cairns in Marblehead reports he and Mary Lane again spent last summer on their J-40 sloop in the North Atlantic area toward Labrador after they and their temporary crew of six won their class in the Marblehead-to-Halifax race. I asked Walt whether many other '48s do much ocean sailing in their own craft. We didn't know other than that Dick Loomis and TutTuttle own smaller sails and that JakeTurner may be the only other who operates before air in something more than 30 feet long.

Did we miss anyone? How about ancient mariners Jim Garrison, Bill Pace, and Pete Swinscoe?

For the second year in a row Bill andMarge Scott in February organized a three-day '48 mini. The gang slept and partied in Lyme and put on their boards at the skiway, where the artificial snow made up for skimpy real stuff. At the big evening at the Lyme Inn where laughter and reminiscence reigned appeared the Scotts, Gedneys, Hatheways, Hummels, Krumms, Pat McAllister, Bud Munson, the Foxy Parkers, the Joe Smiths, and Sam Wilkinson (whose Sally missed due to a back injury). Sounds like a classical apres ski of the old school.

Don't forget that this year's edition of the Alumni Fund ends June 30. Your faithful Marv Axelrod and his agents are beating the bushes in the attempt to extract enough '48 jack to cover our share in supporting Dartmouth's endangered need-blind admission policy so all who qualify can attend.

Also remember the Athletic Sponsors Program to help worthy student athletes visit the campus. These seem causes worthy of your attention.
