Though it's almost September, I'll report on 1930's May pre-C.O.W., because I know Bob Keene is too modest to tell al.As past participant in many reunions and minis, I qualify as a judge, and in my judgment the one day pre-C.O.W. was quite a success, which I attribute almost entirely to Bob's planning arrangements, hospitality, and generosity, even to lending me a car from his fleet(!), so I didn't have to rent one.
As the principal 1930 event was to be a Thursday (May 2) afternoon cookout at Hob's wooded estate outside Etna, I had to arrive Wednesday evening, not being able to schedule my own jet as Bill Clinton did in 1995. There to meet me were Bob and close friend Ginny Chambers and, to my pleasant surprise, Ted Wolf. They had parked my" car at the Lebanon Airport Economy Inn, where I hung my hat until Sunday except for Friday, when I was a College at the Hanover Inn
The Thursday cookout, hosted by thr Keenes, became an elaborate eat in, a concession to cool weather. I counted 18 participants around the combined tables. Can I name 18? First there was Bob Keene, sons Peter and Bob and their attractive wives, aughter Susan, friend Ginny, and a gracious neighbor, who teamed up to feed the gang. next, tWO our Hanover widows Lan Widmayer and Ruth Vogt, MargeChase being unable to attend because of continuing health problems. Then, assorted class officers: ex prexie Ted Wolf, BillFenton with Nancy Hukill, newly elected VP Wally and Lois Wasmer, BurtCrandell, and the secretary. Seventeen; did I miscount or forget someone?
Missing were Dick Squire, JackWooster, and Ed Weinstein, who were unable to make the C.O.W. Previously expected but missing were HarrisonCondon, knocked out by flu, and GeneMagenau, who had just arrived from California and found his home at the Ragged Mountain Club infested with ladybugs. Doris McClory couldn't make the Thursday date because of a conflicting engagement. She and the Magenaus, Gene and daughter Genie, arrived the next day. Another who missed the fun was FranHorn, who, Bob said, had considered attending, but changed his mind.
