John Chamberlain sent a copy of a note from Doug Wilson, who had been given the Emerson Society's Distinguished Achievement Award as textual editor of the Collected Works of Ralph WaldoEmerson and of related activities during the past 22 years. Kudos to Doug. Another note- worthy award was that of 1997 Class Treasurer of the Year by President Freedman to Phil Holden for, among other achievements, having 84 percent of the 143 members of the class of 1931 pay their annual dues—the highest participation in recent College history.

Phil magnificently maintained the highyield standard set by the late Lucy Cogswell. I distinctly remember at one COW meeting in the '80s when treasurers of other classes asked for advice on how to improve their yields: I told them to consult Lucy.

I plan to attend the Penn game at Franklin Field on September 20, and shall report, fates willing, to attendees at our mini Cornell game weekend.
