This month's column is the Special Travel Section. Sometimes I wonder if anyone stays home long enough to read the DAM or any part of it. Chan Stein and John Washburn got linked up through some earlier Class Notes and discovered that Chan has a Washburn line that joins John's way back in the 1630s/40s. This spring Stan cruised the Danube between Budapest and Vienna, then visited Prague, covering all three major Hapsburg centers.
Harry and Peg Hampton have been with Elderhostel on the Rhone River, Lyons to Avignon, thence up to Paris and on to see their daughter and the tulips in Holland.
Bud (Hugh) Morris writes about his travels with Dee. Last fall they traced the path of the Zulu Wars with the British (1879) all through Zululand in southeastern South Africa. Bud came back with a Zulu shield, spears, and a knobkerry. That last I had to look up. You should too, and be alert if you meet Bud carrying it. More news from Bud and Santa Fe yet to be revealed.
Charles and Joan Youmans continue their annual program of six months of overseas courses and land travel. On a trip to Antarctica Charles had a happy Hanover chat with his chance seatmate, Dr. Joe Marsh '47. Charles and Joan spend another two months a year moving around the U.S.A.
Yes, '45s do travel the U.S.A. too. SylviaReed keeps in touch with Joan Rowan, as she does so well with other class widows. She tells me that Joan has enjoyed visiting family in Colorado and California and spending a week in Santa Barbara with Howard and Roseanne Germain. I recall that Paul and Arlene Samek and Ray andBertha O'Crowley have also been hosted by the Germains. Get your winter reservations in early for Casa Germain. The O'Crowleys this summer did an extensive colorful and cultural tour of Italy, city and countryside.
Home address for John and ShirleyRobinson is Berrill Farms in Hanover. They are occasionally there, between trips to Portugal, Hawaii, Florida, Australia/New Zealand, and Lake Winnisquam. As previously reported, Shirley and Alberta Elder run the Berrill Farms condo complex. And now Alberta has taken on the job of secretary with the Friends of Hopkins/Hood as well.
