As you know, we write these columns three months in advance; thus most of the news we relate is pretty old by the time you read it. But this month I have some seriously old news to tell: Charles Pappas married Elizabeth Bigos in Maine on December 28, 1996. Why, you may ask, has it taken so long to announce this happy event? Because Charles didn't tell us about it; we had to learn of it from a press cutting from the PortlandPress Herald. (The lesson to be learned: tell us yourself, or we'll announce the birth of your first child when he/she gets into Dartmouth!) In any case, Charles lives and practices medicine in Burlington, Vt., and we suspect his wife will be joining him as she attends Tufts Medical School.

In more recent marital news, GeoffBerlin married Delphine Eyraud near Aixen-Provence, France, on August 23 of this year. This story, although more timely than the last, does not arrive courtesy of Geoff himself but of his father, who as a fellow class secretary had pity and e-mailed me the details. (One suspects Geoff was too busy on his honeymoon to attend to such matters.) Geoffs nuptials were witnessed by a number of classmates: DavidFrulla, Kyle Gore, Rob Irwin, TomRivard, and Jim Schaefer to be exact. Geoff and his wife live in Paris where she works for Booz-Allen and Geoff heads up Privatization Partners and is presently actually working in Kiev—quite a commute, Geoff!

While Geoff brings private enterprise to the Ukraine, Karen Francis is bringing "brand management" to General Motors. Crain's Detroit Business reports that Karen is one of six "marketing whiz" outsiders recruited by G.M. last year. Karen's career has taken her from marketing Colgate toothpaste to Berol pens and pencils and now to Chevy—just shows to go you how flexible a good liberal arts education is.

moves: he was a lawyer and is now working as a filmmaker. The Ft. Worth StarTelegram compares him to John the Baptist, calling him a "voice calling in the wilderness" (!) for showing his award-winning film, "Battle for the Minds," which investigates the conservative take-over of the Southern Baptist denomination, at the Southern Baptist Convention itself in Dallas. Talk about an unfriendly audience! The film was also shown nationwide in June on PBS' Point of View program. Congratulations, Steve.

In the most recent news of all, RandySlayton e-mailed Tom and me a few days ago with news of his family and some friends from Kappa Sig. Randy and his wife, Brenda, live in Wethersfield, Conn., with their two children Jessica, who is 5, and Christie, who is 11 months old. Randy caught up with the Kappa Sig bunch at JBDaukas and his wife, Christie's, home in Watch Hill, R.I. The Daukases have three kids—don't know how many dogs, cats, or minivans though. One other '84, among other friends, was present at the minireunion: John Ferreby and his wife, Sandy, with their two boys made the trek up from Louisville. Given the number of kids present, Randy says, "the boys stayed up late for a little peace and quiet, a few cold barley-type beverages, and some great reminiscing about Dartmouth, Kappa Sig, and much, much more." And I can't think of a better plug for our own 15th Reunion this spring: reminiscing with good friends and cold beer.
