An every-issueguide to staying in touch with Dartmouth

Thousands of alumni gave the College most of the Will to Excel's half a billion dollars. Thousands also give untold hours serving their alma mater—in many different ways. Individuals and clubs recently honored for their service include:

District Enrollment Director of the Year. Honored as the district enrollment director of 1996 is John H. Kennedy 'S3, Th'54, cited for extensive application and admissions activities in his Connecticut district, specifically for his superb communications with all candidates and their families. John has also served as a club president, and on a number of class committees. Sonjohn is an '86.

Club President of the Year. Recognized for revitalizing the Dartmouth Club of Indiana after only two years in Indianapolis, Michael A. Carter '77 built participation in his club with well-attended luncheon meetings, seminars, holiday events, community service programs, and more—with an executive committee that spans five decades and with the increased involvement of young alumni.

Small Club of the Year. For reasons described immediately above, the DartmouthClub of Indiana—with only 300 members across the whole state—won this honor. Additional activities included high school book awards, dozens of applicant interviews, successful job networking, the donation of Dr. Seuss books to un-Seussed libraries, a well-written newsletter. Honorable mention: Dartmouth Club of Central Florida.

Medium Club of the Year. A tie between the Dartmouth Clubs of Detroit and Rochester. Both ably conducted the usual club activities—interviewing, book awards, seminars, receptions, the hosting of Green teams, community projects. Further, Detroit raised its $70,000 scholarship fund, which helps support two area undergraduates. And Rochester's 8400,000 fund supports six undergraduates.

Large Club of the Year. With a mailing list of more than 1,100 in its 100-inilelong area, the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Long Island is indeed large. In 1996 it was recognized for a variety of activities that included a close relationship with the "I Have a Dream Foundation," supporting the tutoring of high-school students and providing their exposure to classics such as Shakespeare. Other activities ranged from a barbecue for young alums to a Big Apple Circus party, from the support of college fairs to a dinner for incoming freshmen.

Metro Club of the Year. A regular award winner, die Dartmouth Club of Washington is recognized again for its outstanding activities. In die past year it ran 34 events, which attracted more than 1,200 people and raised $5,600 for scholarship. The club maintains a tutorial program for inner-city youth. It interviewed all 353 Dartmouth applicants from the D.C. area. Its job development networking helped six undergraduates and 18 alumni find jobs. It participated in college fairs and gave 70 book awards. Honorable mention in this category went to the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston.
