I had a very hard time believing the story of LisaTucker's wedding. But then I read it again, and I realized that no one could possibly make this up. It all began when Lisa was out walking Thurgood, her poodle. Seems the dog took a liking to Abbie, a dalmatian who was also out for a stroll. Less than two years later, the two canines served as flower dog and "groomsdog" at the wedding of Lisa and Abbie's owner, Harvard grad Stephen McElroy. Thurgood and Abbie were well behaved, though they barked during the vows.
That's a pretty wacky story already. But it gets better—or worse, depending on your point of view.
A blizzard hit New England during the wedding weekend last December, meaning that guests needed ten hours to make the three-hour drive from Boston to Stowe, Vt. Steve's sister's bridesmaid's dress fell out of the car into a snowbank, and was found the morning of the wedding, ripped to shreds by a snowplow. A seamstress whipped up another one in four hours.
Also, the wedding cake baker quit her job but didn't tell Lisa until the last minute. Finally, Lisa and Steve got the flu and spent the whole honeymoon week in bed. Otherwise all went well at the Stowe Community Church, with Robert Gallo,Tim Burdick, and Nicole Bunting 'B7 in attendance. Diane Mountford '88 was maid of honor, and Melanie Blood '88 sang during the ceremony. After the reception, the guests hot-tubbed outdoors in the falling snow until 3 a.m.
The newlyweds, who must surely have a helluva good sense of humor, live in Somerville, Mass., with the two dogs and three cats. Lisa is a teacher and Steve is working on his M.B.A.
In other '89 news, Steve Blank reports that Jeanne Lucich has moved to Boston. Jeanne was in San Francisco working on her doctorate in pharmacy. What she is doing now, Steve did not make clear in his e-mail. Presumably it has something to do with making people feel better. Steve, meanwhile, continues to work as an engineer in General Electric's aircraft division. Look for him in a future Tom Clancy novel.
Here's an old bit of news I dug up: RobHollister graduated from Stanford's M.B.A. program in the top ten percent of his class. This was in June, so maybe Rob will write in to let me know what he's doing now.
Siobhan Westcott wrote in with a whole bunch of news. Renee Snow is finishing her fourth year of medical school in Philadelphia, and she hopes to go into psychiatry in the Boston area. Peter Kong has left the legal field, Siobhan adds. After three years in a Santa Barbara law firm, he moved to investment banking. Peter now works at Montgomery Services in San Francisco. Geoff Gilmartin is on target to graduate from Brown medical school this year. He is featured in a recent Dartmouth Med School booklet touting the merits of the joint Dartmouth-Brown program. As for Siobhan herself, she is in Fairbanks, Alaska, finishing the last semester of premed requirements and is gritting her teeth through organic chemistry.
