Recently Logic Associates, a tiny software company in Wilder, Vt., founded 26 years ago by Warren Loomis and Nicholas Orem Tuck '71, swallowed up its giant Silicon Valley competitor. Warren, a.k.a. "Zogs" Loomis, after Thayer, founded Logic which provides specialized computer services to the printing industry. Zogs felt "there was a place for somebody in the middle who could talk to the geeks and talk to the business community." In expanding its expertise to include estimating, scheduling, inventory control, accounting, payroll, and other key print-shop functions, Logic now serves some 1,200 customers scattered across 20 countries with annual sales of $15-$20 million. A major decision Logic faced is whether to expand its facilities on the contiguous lot next to the barn at the old Billings Dairy in Wilder or to seek a new site across the river in the tax haven of New Hampshire. In any event Logic will continue to utilize the skills of the Upper Valley residents in expanding its business into the twenty-first century. Congratulations and future success to Logic and Zogs!

Paul F. Egner Jr. '59, via e-mail, reported visiting with John B. Schempf while attending the installation of John's sister Paula as commanding officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Unit in Houston, Texas. Paul reports that "John has now retired from the U.S.C.G. and lives in Windsor, Vt. He hasn't "changed much, still disgustingly thin." We '62s look forward to John fording the Connecticut to attend our minireunions in Hanover.

At our 35th I trust that I will have seen a good number of '62s who will have been able to face to face voice their constructive comments on performance as secretary in order to improve the work product of my successor.

In my March '96 column when I commented on the continuing revolution in communications with the shift from the printed word to use of electronic media, I voiced my preference for the written word. As I complete my office as class secretary (the background noise is a big cheer and sigh of relief from my secretary) I must express a few reflections and perhaps fears over the loss of the personal touch in our society.

Are we overrelying on the ever expanding power of the Internet with its capability to deliver instantaneously (well almost, so as long as you do not subscribe to AOL) and economically unlimited volumes of information? I realize as a computer illiterate I am a babe in the woods when it comes to the marvels of cyberspace. But I am concerned that as we overdose in utilizing computer communications, we may lose our ability to interrelate face to face. And now the commercial!

Even if it is too late to plug our 35th Reunion, I encourage your participation, face to face and real time at our football and other mini-reunions. I also solicit your ideas for future '62 mini-reunions; perhaps a Mississippi riverboat cruise?

I thank you for your past support and encourage you to overwhelm my successor with your communications. We really do want to hear from you.
