Young and Old Salts

Each year, the Dartmouth Corinthian Yacht Club holds an alumni regatta and invites past graduates to to test their skills against the current varsity team. This year. DCYd members from rise 1960s made a special effort to gather at the reunion, help christen' the new 1997 boats. Of the 90 sailors in attendance. 13 came from the classes of'60 to '66.

Many images from the weekend linger: a.core group of "bid salts" sharing stories, pictures, and pitchers with recent alums.late on a Friday night at Murphy's On The Green...steady rain, air temperature of 45 degrees, the ice but two weeks gone from Mascoma, yet the champagne corks flew; the crowd cheered, and tlie race was on...a fine 10-knot sailing breeze, increasing wind, patches of blue sky nd the alums, in large thanks to '95 All-Americas Whitney Connor and Carey Cliffor, ahead of the varsity for the first time in many years. It all came together Saturday night at the DOC House. Spontaneously, in the middle of a '60s-Style hootenanny led by '6os alumni playing four guitars, the recent alums and undergraduates rose to their feet, locked arms around shoulders and began singing the alma mater. I swear there was not a dry eye in the place.
