Professor Mary Kelley of the history department has been elected president of the American Studies Association, a 5,000-member organization of academics committed to studying America and its culture from an interdisciplinary perspective. One of her first activities was joining Hillary Clinton at Fort McHenry in Baltimore for the beginning of the First Lady's "Save America's Treasures" tour. Kelley spoke about how collective memory and national history are increasingly reflecting both the nation's diversity and its common values.
