Sports, huh? No sweat. Did you see that Susan Nutt finished just under four hours in this fall's NYC Marathon, beating out over 16,000 of her fellow runners? Her very first marathon, Susan said that it was "a lot of fun."
"Although at the very end," she continued, "I thought that that was enough."
An architect who lives next to Central Park, Susan did half-marathons and a 20-miler in preparation, which all seems to have paid off, not only given her fine overall time but also given the fact that she passed a '92 in the early going. There was a price to pay, however: "It took about three days after the race," she said, "before going down stairs did not hurt anymore."
Susan's not hobbled around when it comes to keeping in touch with classmates: she attended Chris Hunter's wedding in Marin, Calif., this past October; recently visited Kim Dunn, who practices law in her hometown of Anchorage, Alaska; speaks with Susan Kelley from time to time, who lives in Woodbridge, Conn., with her husband and two children and works at Yale's computer center; and runs into investment banker Joe Cerulli in New York.
No doubt there's lots of running into at the busy home of Mike Komara. Mike and his wife, Pamela, have three children, and all are very active: oldest Brandon is an orange belt in karate, while 3-year-old Alexandra, a gymnast, dodges her brother's chops by executing smart-looking backflips. New addition Austin, who was born July 4, 1997, can dunk already.
The Komora Krew lives in Indialantic, Fla, and when Mike's not mending the rims that Austin routinely mangles, our classmate is a chief engineer for AirNet Communications, a manufacturer of all digital cellular/wireless base station equipment. Find out what the hell that is by e-mailing Mike at , but he may be hard to track down as he is active as his kids, playing golf, enjoying the occasional scuba dive, and planning a big family ski vacation to Big Sky this January.
John Dodd seems to be doing the same golf and skiing, I mean, not mending rims. Currently, The Tall One is a senior vice president with the asset management side of The Boston Co., working on marketing and client services for the mid-Atlantic states; most of his time is spent drumming up new business. But he's also involved with other kinds of "sports," so to speak, owning with others a variety of nightclubs and bars in Boston. He began this game in the go-go eighties, investing in NYC places such as the Crane Club. Now in Beantown he's partowner of the best dance club in that city Avenue Crand is just about to open another venue called Emily's. Can't get enough of that funky stuff, it seems. Lastly, Rick Silverman, Greg Clow, and I are trying to compile a list of e-mail addresses of '81s. If you've got one and you know that one of the three of us does not already have it please send a message my way. Thanks. I promise not sell 'em to the highest bidding "spamming" outfit.
