John Ferries '59 sends this news on his neighbor, Bill Ryan: "Bill celebrated his 100th birthday on January 13. Bill still lives in his home in Wilton, Conn. He is in remarkably good shape, taking walks outside on his own whenever the weather permits. In August he became a great-grandfather for the first time." Paul Caravatt Jr. '45 and Mr. Ferries, long-time neighbors of Bill in Wilton, were two of the many friends and family who celebrated his birthday with him.

It is interesting to put Bill's achievement in perspective by noting that, in the year he was born, the United States consisted of only 45 states, aspirin was invented, and the Campbell Soup Co. was founded. Bill entered Dartmouth the year before Ernest Martin Hopkins became president. And he graduated before Baker Library was built or the idea for it was even conceived.
