Among the college presidents receiving positive press lately has been Arthur "Pete" Linkins. Pete became president of Paul Smith's College in the Adirondacks last year. After majoring in biology in Hanover and graduate study, Pete worked in arctic biology in Northern Alaska before becoming a professor and then vice president for academic affairs at Clarkson. Now Pete gets to join fellow college presidents in solving the puzzle of infinite institutional needs and income that is never enough.

Many of our classmates give very significant hours to community service work. This month two have been named to head volunteer boards. The Minnesota papers announced that George Wood has been named chair of the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Minnesota/South Dakota. George is the president and C.E.O. of the Minnetonka-based Lockermate Corp. The organization was particularly happy to have George's business acumen and commitment to its mission in light of the vast changes in the health-care and insurance systems. In Chicago Don Kress has been named president of the board of the Chicago Fund on Aging and Disability. Don will be responsible for strategic planning, policy development, and fiscal management of the fund, which supports such programs as Meals-on-Wheels that seek to promote independence among the elderly and disabled in Chicago.

After a career working as an outside and in-house corporate counsel, Rich Weller has opened his own firm in Montclair, N.J. He sees a real corporate need for a highly experienced yet responsive small firm with major experience to focus on corporate, commercial, and compliance matters, including litigation, that affect entrepreneurial companies.

There is something very special about the connections among the generations at Dartmouth. I recently read about Marissa Piropato '97, who will be working as an intern with the chief justice of the Supreme Court. She will be the first Leach Intern, supported by a fund which Paul Leach and his mother have established to honor Paul's father. What a wonderful memorial. How about sending me your news so that I may share it with the class?
