Standing 26 feet to the roof peak, the DOC of Northern California's Dormer Pass. Cabin has been a mecca for snow-starved DOC expats for close to 50 years. The brainchild of Johnny Ellis '34 the cabin sits on the shore of LakeAlary just a third of a mile from the pass, in the heart of hiking and backcountry skiing country. That 1/3 mile can become epic in the thick of a Sierra blizzard, as this writer can attest, but once there the place is comfortable, even cushy by normal DOC standards. As a result it has seen some fine chubber reunions. DOC-NC volunteers maintain and run the place, and members and their guests may use it. Contact them at (415) 661-0913.
