JUNE 1998 Mary Lougee Ripley,

The March sports issue brought back many memories of our friendship with Myles Lane. He and Larry shared the same landlady when they were first lawyers in New York City. After we were married, living in Greenwich Village, the three of us spent a lot of time together, often as a foursome. Myles had a knack for squiring the most attractive young ladies, among them Eva Gabor and Trygze Lie's daughter, GTuri, with whom I had our Norwegian connection. When Maggie and Myles had married, we lived on Governors Island, and on Sundays the four of us were likely to play tennis, do the Times puzzle, go to the club for the fabulous buffet, and Maggie would also work on her well-known needlepoints.

They were happy years!

Some of the '29 class officers thought it would be a great idea to make Dean Lee Pelton an honorary member of our class. Unfortunately for us, the class of '58 beat us to the punch. Lee has been a very popular dean, and his leaving will be Dartmouth's loss.

Charlie Dudley fell at Kendal after swimming, broke his hip, and during recov- ery came down with pneumonia. However, both he and Fran seem to be coming along well.

We were sad to learn that CharlieGoldsmith died mid-February in West Palm Beach. He and Lee last year moved into a retirement community, and her address is Fountainview #2-412, 111 Executive Center Drive, West Palm Beach, FL 33401.

There are physical changes in Hanover. Webster Hall is being turned into Rauner Library for Special Collections, the Moore psychology building is up, but not finished, the Inn is remodeling a bit, and the Berry Library will soon be started. Fortunately, Dartmouth Row stays its majestic same. When the floodlights are on at night, along with the lights on Baker Library tower and the White Church tower, those buildings are a beautiful, familiar sight.

Rip says: "Some folks are given far too much to speech On subjects where they're far more loud than clear. Why do such people often seem to preach The sermons they themselves most need to hear?"
