Elena Barr Baum and her husband, Gary, moved to Norfolk recently, becoming homeowners in time for the "twin nor' easters of '98." If you find yourself in Norfolk or Va Beach, give them a call. Leah (Yegian) and Charlie Wheelaxi wrote to say that their daughter Katrina was born on February 5. Their other exciting news is that Charlie is now Dr. Wheelan, having finished his Ph.D. the day after Katrina was born! .

Uwe Brandes was named visiting assistant professor at the Pratt Institute School of Architecture, where he taught a design studio exploring the recent urbanization of New Jersey's Hudson River waterfront. Uwe works in New York City at Jambhekar Strauss Architects, where he is directing the design of a maritime museum and harbor in Buffalo, N.Y., which commemorates the historic terminus of the Erie Canal.

David and Laura Busfield Kregenow had their second boy on December 3, 1997. They are now in Seattle, where David is completing his residency in internal medicine at UW. He will spend a year as chief resident at a local hospital, and is applying for fellowships in pulmonary/critical care around the country. Laura is working for state court judges who have cases that are too large for them to handle on their own (one of which is the litigation between Washington State and the tobacco companies).

Mike Porter was busy in 1997. He graduated from the M.B.A. program at UW and joined a company called ATL, which makes ultrasound machines. And he and his wife, Celie, had their first son, Benjamin, in August 1997.

Steve Cook invited the Kregenows to dinner one night in January, where they were surprised to find Kelly (Mortell) Prime as a fellow guest. Steve is finishing his first year of residency in Tacoma and was on Jeopardy last year. Says Laura, "It's absolutely amazing what junk that man carries around in his head!"

Colin Stewart and his wife, Gracie, had their first child, Madeleine Cole Stewart, on March 6, 1998, at the Matilda and War Memorial Hospital, Hong Kong. In July 1997 Morgan Stanley seconded Colin to their joint-venture investment bank, China International Capital Corp., in Beijing as a deputy CEO. He provides investment banking services to the government, stateowned enterprises, and private companies across China and Hong Kong. The Stewarts continue to shuttle between homes in Beijing and Hong Kong.

David Nitkin joined the Orlando Sun Sentinel in 1994, covering city, county, and state governments in Florida. Following graduation he earned a master's at Harvard's JFK School of Government. Robert Yee sent us an update on his dues stub: "I have recently been promoted to vice president and country manager for the Republic of Palau for the Bank of Hawaii." And thanks for paying those dues!

Jennifer Eber has become a director and shareholder at Orr and Reno, Pa. Having graduated from Boston College Law School, Jennifer is a trial attorney and member of the firm's employment and commercial litigation practices. She represents both plaintiffs and defendants in cases of sexual harassment, wrongful discharge, divorce, and custody as well as commercial disputes. She also represents local humane societies and animal rescue organizations and is a member of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

David Downie recently left Singapore, White & Case, and the law to join the Global Structured Finance Group at BT Alex, Brown in New York. Nicole Sakowitz and Bill Pilcounis had a son, Ari Carl Sakowitz, born on March 30, 1998. Said Bill, "Ari and mom were truly miraculous to witness during the Bradley natural childbirth process."
