Sadly, I must report the death of Jon Jenkins in early August. More details later. More 50th Reunion highlights: a nice ceremony with a plaque now affixed to Leede Arena honoring our own Ed Leede for his contributions. Bob and Phyllis Swift made a nice addition to the smooth running of the DOC. Swifty has now finished handing over the '49 treasurer's material to George Hartxnann—no easy task after cooking the books for five years. The final number of the '49 Reunion giving was a neat $1,258,249, achieved by Ray Truncellito, Paul Bjorkland, and their merry band of tax collectors. If you missed June, the next chance is the minireunion for the Lehigh game, Oct. 8-10, and dten we have a joint cocktail party with 'SO on Dartmouth Night, Oct. 22, in the Faculty Lounge just prior to the Cornell game. The Reunion totals showed 168 classmates and 125 spouses, widows, children, and etc. for a 293 total. John Kent Cooley took honors for the long-distance trip from Adiens. Bull MooseStearns, I would think, was closest, stumbling over about two blocks. Much discussion about our missing class member Gunther Perdue (see list in the Reunion Book). Jay Urstadt claims he had a drink with him, along with DekeJackson, Skip Mueller, and Quent Kopp, but they are all suspect. Bob Nutt is sure Perdue is in a Federal Witness Protection Program (probably not a first for a friend of those guys). Perdue was reportedly an on-campus mole for Wormwood in '45-'49. Anyone else know his whereabouts, or any other on the missing list? Matt and ML Fenton have purchased a new home in Bonita Bay, Fla. Plenty of room and no advance notice or reservations needed. And two doors down Mike and Fredy Marchese have a great bar where he serves Manhattans in mason jars. Door is unlocked; go right in and help yourself. After much controversy, the new Scully-Fahey field is under construction to give the College an artificial practice/playing field. Our 1998 Gold PickAxe awardee, Don Scully, can take mighty credit for this needed addition. Tom Barr was seen licking his demolition/construction chops while viewing the Phi Delt house. That's his contribution to the current Greek society discussion. Went over the new Ledyard Bridge the other day. Plenty of controversy there with contractor failures, lost trees, and over-runs, but I must say it's a real improvement and impressive. A big new parking garage going up in Hanover behind the post office. Meanwhile, the town fathers have doubled the parking meter rates. Remember those legendary stories of the students loading the town meetings and passing lofty legislation? Hardly a peep these days. How about a peep from you with more news for this column?
