Don Alexander was kind to call and remember his late and lifelong friend Artie Katz. Don recalled how Artie had given him a ribbing about being a golfer all his life, until Artie took up the game himself in his sixties. When Don married Sandie in Rollins Chapel with all Phi Delts in attendance on the Sunday of our 40th Reunion, Artie was his best man and Artie's wife of 40 years, Ruth, was maid of honor. Don is still working, with the Packing Corp. of America in Richmond and promises to stop in N.C. soon to visit. Don Gray is another member of the class minority that is still working for a living, with GNB Technologies, battery division, in Atlanta. He says that he'll retire in February if they'll let him since 25 years in the highly competitive battery business is enough for anyone. Woody will be at the 45 th Reunion to find out why the College has waited so long to solve the coed problem re fraternities. He sees no reason why they shouldn't all be coed already! PeteRosenwald had a scare recently when he went into the hospital for a triple bypass and had internal complications which required a follow-on operation of the lower intestine. He rallied but there were some scary hours and we're happy to report that Pete will have a video tape of the entire process to show at the banquet for our 45th. George Robison retired from the North Carolina Low Level Radioactive Waste Management Authority onjune 30. George and Kitty will now have more time to spend between Greensboro and the beach, although George will continue to consult for the NCLLRWMA. The latest WHJVhas reports from our four class Alumni Council representatives re the Trustees' initiative on student life. All agree that the process is now in place for a reasonable resolution of the problem. My question is: Jack Billhardt listed the current student life issues as "insufficient campus residency, disruptions caused by the Dartmouth plan, a Greek system that needs review, and excessive use of alcohol". None of these are new or sudden problems; all have been apparent to some degree for years. Why do we now consider this a crisis, and where have all the administrators been these several years?
