Backin 1997 the class of 1951 "adopted" the class of 2001 in a half-time ceremony at a football game. During the event more than 800 freshmen who had received free tickets from the '51s, deafened the crowd with their cheers, says Bob Hustek '51.
That enthusiasm has continued through the years, most recently in the '51-'01 Songfest at the Lone Pine Tavern last May. Pianist Ron Thorburn '51 and several '01s wowed both classes with old showtunes and traditional Dartmouth songs. But the connections go beyond football and music: after the show members of both classes chatted into the night. "They were very curious about what was going on with the Trustees' recent decision to change student social life," says Collin o'Mara '01. "They told us stories about their experiences with the Greek system and asked our opinions."
