I was looking forward to my annual trip to Hanover for the class and alumni club weekend until my flight was washed out by Hurricane Floyd. Too bad I missed it.
The class of 1977 was recognized as Class of the Year of the classes that have graduated fewer than 25 years ago. And our Fearless Leader Amy Cholnoky was honored as Class President of the Year. Pretty good showing!
Amy's award was well deserved. She is president of the Association of Alumni, has been involved in structuring the trustee selection process, and was the alumni representative on the recent presidential search committee. And now Amy's on to planning our 25th Reunion.
As part of that effort, the class of 1977 will at last have a class web page, which should be up and operating by the time this column is published. Check it out by going to the alumni section of the College's web site. Many thanks to JimBoucher and Alex Colvin, who have volunteered to be webmasters.
Alex has been living in Hanover since 1990, working for various computer companies. "After several years doing digital audio, I pulled up stakes and joined the internet gold rush. Now I work for Vicinity, a Silicon Valley startup doing mapping and locating on the web (see www.mapblast.com for our free maps and driving directions). The best part of this is that I didn't have to move away—most of the engineering is done here in New Hampshire. I recently took a year's leave of absence and finished a Ph.D. at Dartmouth, something I've been working at on and off since the 1980s. Thanks to Jeff Sudikoff for the nice office space."
Several of you responded to my request for e-mail addresses in the September column very literally, providing e-mail addresses but not the flood of personal anecdotes I was counting on. Well, at least you're reading the Class Notes "text" closely, just as we were taught in English 5.
Katy Miller, however, was kind enough to take the bait, adding an update from Littleton, Colo., to her response. "For the last two years, I have been increasingly turning my legal practice to mediation, and I have a private mediation practice, focusing on employment law. I also help out the EEOC with mediation efforts. I have two little girls, ages 11 and 7, and an 18-year-old stepdaughter who attends Middlebury. My husband is an employment lawyer with a large firm here in Denver."
As always, I look forward to your cards and messages. No calls on the cell phone, please, unless you have something really colorful to share.
