The Rauner Special Collections Library opened in Webster Hall on December 15, replacing Baker Library's Treasure Room as the new home of Dartmouth's collection of rare books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, sheet music, posters, and artifacts. We can't say the library reopened without any glitches. Even after a two-week delay, the two-year, $10 million renovation wasn't quite finished on opening day as patrons, painters, and electricians shared the space with books, drop cloths, and ladders. On the other hand, the library staff was ready, They and a professional moving company had already spent upwards of 7,000 hours packing, moving, and unpacking more than 12,000 boxes, which included:
One Kayak The only known recordings of the Ono and Yaghan people of Tierra del Fuego One copy of Shakespeare's first printing in quarto of Love's Labour Lost One screenplay and one soundtrack record for Animal House Two silk socks (and one beaver hat) belonging to Daniel Webster 1801 Five cuneiform tablets 44 (of the 48 known) Robert Frost notebooks 26,775 files of deceased alumni 95,000 printed volumes 500,000 photographs
