Greetings classmates. I apologize if you tried to e-mail in February and your mail was returned. I did not have mail for three weeks while I was in the process of moving to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. I hope you're reading these Class Notes out loud because Poughkeepsie is really a fun word to say. I've taken a business reporter position at the Poughkeepsie Journal. It's a great place to work and so far, after about four weeks, it's been a pretty good place to live too. I'm near to FDR's birthplace, the Catskills...If you're ever in the neighborhood, give me a ring.
On the other side of the country, Quyen Nguyen recently.wrote with some Class Notes info. Quyen, who lives in San Diego, said he was recently in Boston and met up with Brian Kim, Ross Hallock,Matt Fuller, and Naveh Levy. He wrote that Ross, in his second year of law school, is interviewing for law firms for after graduation. Ross plans to be in Philly after graduation. Naveh is doing graduate work at Harvard. Brian Kim is starting a securities firm with some friends of his from New York. Quyen said he thinks it'll be up and running some time soon. And the big surprise, Quyen said, is that Matt Fuller is engaged to his hometown sweetheart, Katie Slaughter. Congrats, Matt.
Speaking of weddings, I got this message recently from the former KatrinaSamuelson. Her name now is Katrina Wardrip, since she married Peter Wardrip from Wisconsin on Thanksgiving weekend. "Peter and I are living in Indiana now, where I am a graduate student in painting," Katrina wrote. "My dad, who is a minister, performed the ceremony in a small chapel in Wisconsin."
Tiayana Marks, who is currently a third-grade teacher at the Marva Collins school in Kenosha, Wise., was her maid of honor. Nicole Galanek was also a bridesmaid. She recently graduated from Northwestern's graduate program in database marketing and was hired by John Deere and will be moving shortly to North Carolina. Alfonso Tapia also attended the wedding. He is a high school Spanish teacher in Chicago.
Here's a news tidbit: Chris Whalen ran in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., last fall and his time of 3:27 qualified him for the Boston Marathon in the spring.
Lis Barbiero recently sent an update. She is living in Taftsville, between Woodstock and Quechee, for those of you who still recall Vermont geography. Anyway, she is working in Wheeler Professional Park, across from Sachem Fields, at a small financial consulting firm. Lis wrote that she is "currently acting as the assistant treasurer for a national corporation (my boss is the CFO). Since I haven't quite left the area, I see familiar faces everywhere I go. I do want to send some love to Carter Williams, who is stranded in a marmot-infested office somewhere in Manhattan last I heard, the marmots were taking over...Also, Nathan Holland '96 has been up in die area, big kisses for him too. Random of randomness one of the investment bankers I work with is a Dartmouth grad—Rudy Scarito '86 she's VP of Tucker Anthony and we always get a kick out of discussing Dartmouth life. I guess that's it if anyone's in the Hanover area, you can probably see me riding around on my BRAND SPANKIN' NEW motorcycle, so pull me over and say hello...." Will do, Lis.
Sherry Lin sent a message from Taiwan. She recently ended her job at Leo Burnett Taiwan (where she worked for international clients creating ad campaigns for Taiwan) and was headed to New York City to start working at another ad agency in January. She and Cheryl Chua were looking for a two-bedroom apartment in the lower West Side, and I hope they have found one by now!
Be well, do good work, and stay in touch!
