Well, it's Oscar time, at least while I am writing this. Roberto Benigni just won for best foreign language film. He's a trip. As you actually read this, it's just approaching summertime. Two years since Commencement. Wowzers. It seems like a lot of people I know, myself included, have just begun or are just about to begin a new adventure. So good luck to everyone who is beginning a new chapter in life. Keep in touch.
Thanks to Carol Lee, I've got an update for you about '97s in Chicago. She's in her first year at Northwestern law school. Steve Schmidt is a fellow firstyear student and Jung Son is a secondyear law student there.
Carol said outside of law school, she sees Matt Weiss, a second-year medical school student at the University of Illinois-Chicago, and Alfonso Tapia, who teaches Spanish literature at a charter high school run by an organization called ACORN.
Carol writes* "After first semester exams, I went home to New York and hung out with Roshni Alii, Mike Kim,Natasha Zaretsky, Oliver Schietinger,Aditya Dutt, and Steve Borboroglu. All except Steve are living and working in N.Y.C.: Roshni at the opthamology lab at Columbia University (she's also applying to medical schools), Mike at Commscan, Natasha and Ollie at Cravath, Aditya at Salomon Smith Barney. Steve is studying biology at UC San Diego."
Carol also passed on some news about Miranda Johnson, Tim Fitzgibbons, and Ann Kroken. She said Miranda is going to Tanzania on a Fulbright scholarship. Tim has taken a Foreign Service post at the American consulate in Mumbai, India. And Ann is living in Maine and contemplating veterinary school.
Sarah Kopplin has spent time this past year studying maned wolves for the Smithsonian Institution, and she searched for endangered species of freshwater mussels while working for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. She now works for an environmental consulting firm in Durham, N.C.
While visiting graduate schools, Sarah visited with David Belden in Davis, Calif., and Laura du Pont, AmySchneeberger, Mary-Grace Vendola,Kate Fowler, and Jennifer Pariseau in New York City. She also ran into a bunch of other alums working in the city: Brian Palm '96, DanPerkins, Kim Sanderson '96, Vanessa Santago '96, and Matt Wiltshire '96. While watching the Dartmouth vs. UNC basketball game, Sarah met up with Christie Carpenter, who is working for the Special Olympics in Raleigh, N.C., and Sandler Schlicter, who is enjoying med school in Chapel Hill.
Sarah has kept in touch with quite a few other '97s...Caroline Chubb is enjoying working in Chicago and traveling all over the world for Sibson Co., Angie Rutherford is teaching high school science in Montana and working as a park ranger during the summer, JonGale is living in Connecticut and waiting to hear news from some very prestigious graduate programs in clinical psychology, Dave Fox has become chef extrordinaire after attending the New England Culinary Institute, Jennifer Jolicoeur is pursuing her fashion designer dreams in N.Y.C., Jeremy Turk is applying to law school and working in N.Y.C., RickCamp is planning on moving from his East Coast abode to Portland, Ore., and Kevin McCart is almost done with his second year at UVA Law School and will be working in Boston this summer. "Phew! That's it!" Sarah wrote at the end of her message. Thanks for the news!
