Obtaining any news of our hall-of-fame newsletter editor, Donald Goss, about which I could write is a difficult task. Though Donald sees all, hears all, and writes all, he is modesdy taciturn regarding himself. At last though, I have a tidbit. At the awards dinner for the women's basketball team, Donald presented an award that he and Lillian have endowed for the team. It is the Don and Lillian Goss Award, and it is presented to that member of the team deemed to have exhibited the most outstanding spirit. I can't think of any award more in keeping with the enthusiasm and commitment of Donald and Lillian. Allen Collins has written to tell me of meeting Ellie and Clyde Claus at the Nantucket Airport. Ellie, who has just retired, and Clyde, who retired about 12 years ago from the investment world, have just bought a house in Brewster, Mass., near John Alger. Both Ellie and Clyde are active in college affairs, with Ellie on the board at Mt. Holyoke College and Clyde on the board at Boston University, where he will, from time to time, be interacting with Laura Valade Collins, wife of Jed Collins '92, who prepares all the statistical data for the BU meetings. I noted an interesting article in TheBoston Globe. It concerned a landmark court decision by the N.H. Supreme Court regarding the funding of education in the State of New Hampshire. In the article were highlights of the careers of justices Sherman Horton and WilliamJohnson, who are two of just five justices on that court.

From PR Newswire comes the news that Maurice Schonfeld has left Beauchamp Place Productions to assume the position as a director and investor for Spectrum Information Technologies. Maurice helped found CNN, and was its first CEO. He has developed several other news channels and programs and, in 1992, helped develop the TV Food Network, of which he has served as president.

The class of 1953 is planning a series of Christmas luncheons. Dick Fleming has secured The Pillar House for the Boston luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. IS. Donald Goss and Put Blodgett have made reservations at the Hanover Inn for Tuesday, Dec. 21, and Bob Callender has reserved the Yale Club in New York City for Dec. 16. All the luncheons are scheduled to begin at noon. There'll be more information on our web page and in a forthcoming '53 Out. Our first mini-reunion of the fall will be held after the Colgate football game on Sept. 25 at the home of Mitzi and Fred Carleton. The next one will be after the Lehigh game on Oct. 9 at Put and Marion Blodgett's home.

Unfortunately, I must close again with the sad news of the loss of another classmate. George Davies died on April 16, 1999, after a battle with lung cancer. Our deepest condolences go to his wife, Nancy, and their children Gillian, Anne, Caroline, and Patrick. Please keep in touch. Cheers!
