Gino Grenek '94 is one of only nine Americans chosen by the British-based dance company Adventures in Motion Pictures to dance in its innovative Broadway production of Swan Lake, hailed by critics as "both radical and reverent." He has moved in a different direction since studying engineering at Dartmouth. Grenek began his formal dance training in Hanover, studying under Joseph Pepe DeChiazza and Vicki Mansfield, but only after earning an engineering degree his third year. Once SwanLake ends Grenek plans to bring that degree together with his love of dance by start- ing a bizarre ballet dance company. His scientific approach to the art will result in crazy sets based on his knowledge of structural engineering and a philosophy that dance "is a matter of physics of the body."
Grenek, far right, soars in Swan Lake.
