Our own Jay Rosenfield won die December special election to represent District 2 in the N.H. House of Representatives. Jay resides in New London, where he and Barbara are known for good deeds and he goes to the capitol with strong ideas on solutions to the bitter school-funding problem that has plagued the state in the past few years. We need his wisdom down there. Our other Jay (Evans) continues his impressive road racing record, recently winning a major New Hampshire 5-kilometer run in Concord. He won the men's 70-and-up division in a fast 23:45—that's faster than most of us could have run it in 1949! Bill Chapman reports that he was able to get corporate matching funds for his class dues. For those of you still eligible for your company matching gifts program, this is worth checking out since all programs are not the same, but all matches, of course, are credited to the class. Can I put in a plug for Tuck School? So many of us about to celebrate our 50 th Reunion there are '49ers and great supporters of Tuck, which is in its centennial year. Carll Tracy is class secretary and yours truly the class agent.
The Danvers, Mass., paper tells us that Jim Zafris has retired from the Danvers Savings Bank, where he was president, and is now working as a realtor with a Beverly firm. Jim was a 1994 Gold Pick Axe winner and would be pleased to sell you some nice commercial or industrial property up on that beautiful North Shore. And, speaking of the Gold Pick Axe Award, Paul Woodberry will be scratching his head all summer to get a good candidate for the October award. Send him your thoughts.
Sadly, I must report the death of FredBriscoe on Christmas Eve in West Hartford, Conn., at the age of 72. Fred came from a long line of Dartmouth grads, including uncles Louis Cox, class of 1897, Guy Cox, class of 1894 and father Frederick '24. Our condolences to his four surviving children.
Showtime TV recently did a mini-documentary called "Witness To The Execution" on events surrounding assassinations. I have not caught it yet, but Judge Quentin Kopp was one of those interviewed. More interesting however, when the producer was making some revisions to the sound mix, the engineer exclaimed, "My God, Quentin Kopp! I know him!" The sound man was Michael Ungar son of our Skip. Call your local cable company. Demand that it show on prime time. Received a great picture of Robert and Phyllis Swift celebrating their 50th anniversary (suspect there are going to be quite a few from our class shortly). I so well remember the beautiful Phyllis brightening the Phi Delt house parties. Still beautiful today, and doing a great job keeping Swifty organized. I'm still here if you want to send me news.
