The fall season is on us again after a summer of varied and exasperating weather; at least 'twas so here in New England. It's a good time of the year, though, with warm afternoons, cool evenings, and football. At no time of the year are Dartmouth thoughts more with the College. "Breathes there a man with soul so dead" that he doesn't quickly grasp the Sunday sports section to check on the luck of the Big Green? Very few, I imagine. The press releases from Hanover are again good so keep your eyes peeled for the good news. And line up your Harvard, Yale, and Princeton friends for a friendly wager. This is but a suggestion, not a prognostication, so don't blame me for any unforeseen mishaps.

In reminiscing a bit about reunion I was struck with several warm recollections. Man being a social animal, association is extremely necessary to his existence. And I have never experienced a warmer association than that of our 15th reunion. Although the attendees were small in number, they were representative of the Class of 1945. It was a terrific reunion attended by terrific people. And being there one could feel the adhesive of the Dartmouth fellowship. I am extremely proud of this Dartmouth association and of the people who constitute it.

A good deal of news has accumulated over the summer months so I had best get to it. Moe Frye's bachelor's club suffered a crippling loss with the marriage of Pete Beck to Miss Nancy Reynolds on July 17. Nancy was at reunion and we all consider Pete a lucky fellow. Martin Anderholm has "pooled" his affairs with Miss Eleanor Peck of Fitchburg, Mass., making quite a splash in the local society pages. And I'm waiting patiently for the news of Irv Graves's big step with Miss Ann MacFarlane, for their wedding was announced for this fall.

Harking back to the June festivities I have the final results of the Friday night banquet awards so I'll unload them on you now lest I forget. These were dreamed up by EllieMover and represent a good deal of time and thought. The competition, needless to say, was fierce. "Creator of the Most Red Tape," a run-away for Charlie Holt, Reception Committee Chairman; "Possessor of the Most Hot Air," this was a real close battle, but PaulCaravatt talked his way into it (although Laura tried to talk him out of it); "Wettest man in Hanover," several of the brethren tried hard for this cherished award but they had neither the supply nor the capacity of Jim Spanos, Director of Liquid Consumption for the Reunion. The "richest '45 at Reunion" was obviously Geoff Maclay, Reunion Treasurer. When the next award was announced I was a bit apprehensive for fear that Ellie had access to some secret file but when the winner was announced, I saw the justice of it; " '45 with the Most Time in Court," Judge Joe Michael. Harry Bissell won the cup for the Most Kids at Reunion, but I understand that Craig Cain appeared on Saturday with five youngsters in tow.

That's that, and back to the news of your doings. Incidentally, a few of you have expressed some exasperation at the fact that you send along items to Barney or me, and then nothing appears. I assure you that with the scarcity of news that I sometimes experience, I usually use every single thing I can lay my hands on. Occasionally I pass it on to the Newsletter, but of most importance, the information becomes incorporated in my Class files. This is about the only way I have of getting this vital information so please keep sending it along, even though it may seem repetitious to you.

Captain Alan Buchsbaum, USAF, was recently awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. Bucky is now stationed at Otis Field on Cape Cod with residence on Lantern Lane, Falmouth. Henry Moore has been appointed manager of the Systems and Procedures Department of the Glens Falls Insurance Company. John Leggat, with whom I played golf the other day, has been named chairman of the towns division for the i960 United Fund campaign in Greater Lowell. Wife Ruth will serve as co-chairman. John also serves as President of the YMCA, pastPresident of the Lowell Association for the blind, trustee of the Visiting Nurses Asso., and director of the International Institute and the Lowell Humane Society. Also has a thirteen handicap and a fine chipping stroke. Art Nichols has been appointed assistant planning secretary, Planning Department, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co.

It is with deep feeling that I report the death of lan MacKinnon's wife, Mary, in Hartford, Conn., on August 12. The Class extends its heartfelt sympathy to lan and his four children.

I'll be back next month with more. Stand by!
