By the time this column is published our 35 th Reunion will be just a few short weeks away. Present indications point to an exceptional turnout so if you have not made plans to attend, you had better get cracking! Chairman Mike Bettmann and his enthusiastic reunion committee have worked exceedingly hard to make it a memorable and exciting four days and are looking forward to welcoming back many of our classmates who have not been actively involved with the class in addition to the usual large contingent of regular returnees. His overriding goal is to make our 35th a warm and welcoming experience for all. Our headquarters will be the Fayerweathers.

Hank Amon, Russ Carson and ChipHayes, as 35th Reunion giving chairs, are hard at work on making sure our class achieves its College-established Alumni Fund goal of $1,065,000. I am told that they are making great progress, but that we certainly need as broad class participation as possible to assure our success. It is important to note that all giving to Dartmouth during the Alumni Fund year beginning July 1, 1999, through June 30, 2000, will count toward the class of '65's reunion giving effort. So if you have not already done so, please consider a generous contribution in this special class reunion year.

As many of you know, Ward Hindman has created a class Web site. Jim Griffiths recently asked that we all attempt to increase communications with Ward and give him more class support as we head toward our 35th Reunion. For many of us in the class, this method of keeping in touch is still unconventional, but everyone is urged to log on to the '65 Web site through the alumni classes page of www.dartmouth.edu. The plan is to post reunion schedule and activity information and names of attendees as well as current newsletters, minutes and Class Notes. Ward may be e-mailed directly at wlundman@howellinst.com or Whindman65@aol.com.

Word arrived from Ridgefield Conn., that Dennis Purnell has joined Carnall Insurance as sales manager, which gives him responsibility for the agency's property and casualty production as well as the development and implementation of marketing strategies. Prior to this move, he was vice president of commercial insurance at Insurance Exchange/USI in Manchester, N.H. He recently relocated from Manchester, N.H., to Danbury Conn., and holds C.P.C.U. and associate in risk management designations. He was also involved in the Greater Manchester Family YMCA, where he served as team leader for the Reach Out for Youth Campaign from 1995 to 1999.

Steve Waterhouse asks that if you have any new ideas on class projects to please let him know. He can be contacted at 5 Clement Road, Hanover, NH 03755 or stewater@aol.com.

Sadly, Bruce Grimm recently relayed news of the passing of classmate JonathanK. Lee on December 3, 1999. The class extends profound sympathy to his family. A full obituary appears in the obituary section of this issue.
