The July 17 issue of The BostonGlobe contained an article announcing that Judge Robert P. Ziemian had been named first justice of the South Boston District Court by Samuel E. Zoll, chief justice of the district court. His appointment is subject to approval by Judge John J. Irwin Jr., chief justice for administration and management, and he will begin service on a temporary basis on July 28.

From the world of law to the world of business: Christian and Timbers Inc., the nation's fastest growing executive search firm, announced that John C. Daily has joined the firm's New York office as a principal. The release states that John "brings wide-ranging, senior management experience in the information technology industry." After Dartmouth, John received an M.B.A. in marketing from Columbia University and then spent the next 20 years with IBM in various senior executive positions with worldwide responsibility. He left IBM in 1991 to head up Systems Center Inc., a $125-million software company in Reston, Va. Prior to joining Christian and Timbers, John served as executive vice president of Handy HRM, an international search firm specializing in information technology and financial services.

Congratulations to both Bob and John on your many notable achievements.

Allen Zern recently passed along the news that he happened to be listening to the radio in late August and was surprised to hear the voice of our own Rick Davey of the American Red Cross, and our chief medical officer in charge of the nation's blood supply, urging listeners to please give blood because the overall supply at that time was perilously low. Rick, we appreciate your public service work, and perhaps this will serve as a reminder to the entire class to step up and give on a regular basis. Speaking of Allen, he and Judy are leaving tomorrow for a three-week trip to Tuscany, Italy, to sample some of the great food and wine that that beautiful area has to offer. As many of you know, Allen is one of my four business partners, along with Steve Waterhouse. A basic and important internal business principle of our company is that any partner traveling to an exotic locale has the obligation to submit a comprehensive report of the trip to the other partners because either they might wish to go or the locale might be seriously considered for a future partners "business meeting." In this case, it seems as though the least Allen could do would be to bring back a few bottles of fine Italian wine to his hardworking partners! If you detect a touch of envy, you are right! Please share with the rest of the class any news of interesting and fan trips that you may have taken.

Sadly, I must again report the passing of two classmates: Edward "Ted" Leo Boyle and David Neal Soule. The class extends profound sympathy to their families. Full obituaries will appear in a later issue.
