The Glee Club TakesManhattan

The Darmouth Glee Club sure knows how to hold a reunion. For its 135th anniversary this spring, the club celebrated with a performance in New York City's fabled Carnegie Hall. "It's the center of the musical universe," says Glee Club director Louis Burkot. Of course getting there required practice. Two days before their gig, 130 alumni from 30 states and Canada returned to Hanover for a rehearsal, a reunion banquet and a performance at the Hop. Then they packed into buses for the road trip to the Big Apple. The show consisted of a performance of Johannes Brahms'A German Requiem. 'The Requiem is Brahms' greatest choral work," says Burkot, and therefore was "the perfect piece" to celebrate the Glee Club's milestone.
