Dale Jacobson doing fine in Chappaqua, New York, where a certain couple recently purchased a home on "the other side of the tracks." I assume Dale means the "wrong side." He is keeping fit with tennis, biking and aerobics—and looks it. We will probably see a picture of him in the national news jogging with big Bill. Cher Palmer pictured in the local paper at tax time as he grinds out some 150 tax returns for so many poor souls out of his Lebanon, New Hampshire, office. We have a good number of classmates, like Chet, still active in the business world. One of them is Jay Urstadt (is this his private sports page?). He won the National Masters 50-yard breaststroke championship for the age group 70-74, and while I write this is off to Munich to conquer the world. Way to go Jay! Vail Haak dug his old licorice stick out of the attic, dusted it off and is playing with the Upper Valley band in some 18 parades this summer. I was afraid he would wear his legs into stumps till I found that he plays atop a flatbed truck, so he is good for several more years. You still have time to plan a trip to our fall mini-reunion. Come up to see the foliage, enjoy a game and meet old and new friends. For those who haven't been before, we have a first timers' surprise worth the effort. Contact Gordon Thomas at (802-649-2100). By the way, for you statisticians in the audience, the class of 1949 now has a net class count of 425. A portrait of Ed Leede, to be hung in the lobby of Leede Arena, is moving ahead with voluntary contributions to be sent to George Hartmann, 99 Breck Hill Rd., Lyme, NH 03768, checks made out to the "Dartmouth 1949 Portrait Fund." We would, of course, be happy to accept checks from some of the members of other classes who might graze through these Class Notes—especially those who played with Ed. Former Celtics are welcome, too. George Hartmann also has a few more prints available of Dartmouth Hall by Mike Gish. Seventy-five smackers is the kissin' cousin price and other classes are invited to buy as well. A newspaper article in June tells about a young man winning a gold and two bronze medals in the New England Open Figure Skating Competition—coached by our own Mike McGean. Somehow June seemed like the wrong time, but then the NHL and NBA were still going on—and on—and on, as well. A plug for Tuck class of '50, made up almost entirely of 49ers. We set new records in both participation and total dollars. I am the tax collector for that group, so I'm feeling pretty good. Want to make me feel even better? Send something—anything.
