I regret having to start my column telling you of the death of our class president, Jack Russell, who passed away on December 30,2000. I know the sympathy of the entire class goes to his wife, Kix, and family.

Your class officers "met" by telephone and asked that I become your president...I agreed to serve until our 65th reunion in June 2003. Along with my other duties, I will continue to be sure that 1938 remains "that amazing class." As situations develop, you can be sure I will be talking with some of you for assistance and guidance. The new list of your class officers is as follows: president, Dick Francis; vice president, Ash Lans; treasurer, George Kingsbury; secretary, Dick Francis; head agent, Gil Tanis; bequest chairman, Bob Reeve; Pacesetter editors, Ash Lans and Al Wolff; and reunion chairman, Dick Francis. No doubt you've already read about this in the recent issue of the Pacesetter, but I felt that as class secretary, it was my duty to make this special announcement.

The numbers of classmates continue to diminish with the loss of Jack Russell, Lou Frick, Hal Rasmussen and Ralph Johnston. As of February i we have 224 active classmates, 184 graduates and 40 non-graduates. You could include 37 who were with us when we matriculated, but are now classified as "lost" (5) and "non-interested" (32). And, while I am mentioning statistics, you will be interested to learn that, as of March 1 two of our classmates are 88; four are 87; 22 are 86; 74 are 85; 89 are 84; 27 are 83; and our class baby is 81! I talked with Charlie Hitchcock and found that both he and Jean are in good health and are eagerly waiting for spring so that they may resume their quest for the "little white ball." Charlie is still hosting his bi-monthly luncheons—on January six classmates enjoyed their time together. Attendance is down due to the Hanover area snowbirds. Should you be in the area, give Charlie a call and make plans to join the group. I believe they meet the second Tuesday of every other month.

Think spring!!!!
