Last opportunity to make your
reservations for our reunion; the 35th reunion will be October 17-20. Bruce Pacht has organized a great get-together! Join us.
Bob Petitt from Gorham, Maine, says his son, Rob, joins Dartmouth 'O6 this fall. Bob has worked half his professional life either in Europe or for European shareholders. Moved from N.Y.C. (and Credit Suisse) in 1990 to run a bank in southern Maine, and ended up running two of them for more than a decade. Currently with Media Paths Inc. (marketing and media consultancy in Maine and Montreal).
Bob graduated from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, served as a captain for Army in NATO (Germany) and MACSOG (Vietnam). His wife is a business analyst/computer programmer. Bob remarks the picture of Jerry Petitt on Super Links shows Jerry has assumed a similar shape; something about the Petitt genes!
Wayne Johnson works for the VA doing programming, data analysis and crunching numbers. The drawbacks of the office: questions which come out of left field, political pressures, zero tolerance of inaccurate time estimates. Sounds like the normal bureaucracy of federal government. Wayne plans to join us for the reunion.
The Class of 1967 Memorial Grove at Occom Pond will be dedicated during reunion.
Since I assemble and write the obits for these notes and maintain the Super Links, I have been capturing the scholarships, awards and recognition given in memory of our lost classmates. Aselection follows; let me know if you are aware of others. The Ned Gillette Adventure Grant was created by wife Susie Patterson; it is administered by the American Alpine Club as a tribute to Ned's imagination and ability to carry out and accomplish the adventures of his dreams. At Woods Hole, the geographical information system facility is named in honor of John "Jack" V.K. Helfrich, who served as an integral part of the Ecosystems Center from 1975-1998. The Stanford Graduate School of Business endows the individual Richard K. Lazarus Memorial Fellowship. At Dartmouth the Ralph and Richard Lazarus chair recognizes a professor of anthropology and human relations.
At the University of New Hampshire computer sciences department, the Richard Lyczak Memorial Teaching Award honors a teaching assistant for teaching and service. The Marblehead High School in Marblehead, Massachusetts, is located on Duncan Sleigh Square, named for a graduate who died in Vietnam. The William S. Smoyer Award for Sportsmanship is presented to a player in the Princeton, New Jersey, Youth Hockey Association. The Environmental Protection Agency Region III (Pennsylvania) supports the Michael F.Vaccaro Honors Attorney Fellowship. Wonderful legacy to preserve their presence. In your estate planning consider creating an award or scholarship to help others. Please send me specifics on how you would like to be remembered (write your own obit). Lest we forget! See you at reunion.
