Jocelyn Leavitt and Jason Hsiao '98 are producingMatt&Ben, a play written by and starring Mindy Kaling (formerly Chokalingam) and Brenda Withers 'OO, about how the script for GoodWill Hunting falls out of the sky into Ben Afflecks living room. It's at the N.Y.C. Fringe Festival through August 25; www.mattandben.com has performance times. Kristina Klebe, finishing a 20show run of A Servant of Two Masters by Goldoni in N.Y.C., is working on a theater project that will open on the one-year anniversary of September 11. Caroline Kovas was in Once in a Lifetime at the Williamstown Theatre Festival this summer. James Kittredge is in Maine with his girlfriend, Heather Kofke-Egger '02, starting ayear-long internship at the Portland Stage Company. Sarah Tantillo is the Delaware Theatre Company's new assistant stage manager in Wilmington.
Ben Mandelker writes that Andy Richer Controls the Universe got picked up for a second season. Bens at Paramount, working as a writers' assistant for the show, and living in the Hollywood Hills with Joe Fahs. Daniel Merl joined Ben, Eunnok Sohn and Isaac Berniker for a night at Berkeley's Club Mallard. I hear the duck puns got out of control.
Candice Adams is starting a creative writing M.F.A. program at Notre Dame University and Andrew Pease is starting his masters in music education at Columbia University Teachers College. Anne Wadlow is studying the classics at UVA and living with Allison Schumitsch '02 in Charlottesville.
A small avalanche of 'ols will descend on the nation's law schools this fall: Bill Burgess (Penn, joining Nicholas Kovner), Anna Nika (Baylor in Waco, Texas), Brian Maloney (Boston College), Nicholas Morinigo (Boston University, living in Cambridge with Aidan Marcuss and Lou Scerra), Julia Gertsberg (NYU) and Kay Weston (Duke). Phew!
Pat Leslie is working in Boulder, Colorado, for Renewable Choice Energy, selling wind power and "changing the energy industry one prospect at a time!" Also in Colorado, Gusty Swift is coaching and teaching at the Vail Mountain School, while Fran Anderson has just begun med school at the University of Colorado.
On the overseas front, Michael Holmes and Jessica Fortin are leaving for Kenya in September on Dartmouth Lombard Fellowships. Jane Serene is in Turkey on a Fulbright grant to teach English at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. Tony Luckett is teaching in the Marshall Islands. Jessica Marshall is studying hip-hop in Havana on a Dartmouth general scholarship. Ellen Pfeiffer is at the University of Moscow on a Fulbright grant. Matt Wilkens is in Holland, studying electroacoustic music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium. Jackie Lippe is in Geneva, working forthe World Health Organization to create a global database for non-communicable diseases. On a lighter note, Christopher Taylor and Ivan Cestero spent the summer in Tarifa, Spain, "roaming the sands selling homemade lasagna to hungry German beach bums in order to pay for our nights out." Jennifer Lee has been "wandering about China and Korea, volunteering where I can and brushing up on my Mandarin." She plans to visit Patrick Francis at his Mongolia Peace Corps post. Congratulations to the following soon-to-be-hitched! Chris Davis '98 proposed to Andrea Glover under the St. Louis Gateway Arch in June, and Emily Littlefield reports that Joe Rockers proposed to Kim Lenox on Occom Pond this summer. Rebekka Brooks has moved from Boston to Arlington, Virginia, with her fiance, Lee Istrail '99. They are planning a 2004 wedding.
In the meantime, Michael Bayer and Kara House were married on July 5! The bridal party included Gabriela Garcia, Carla Torrielli, Brianne Rideout and Sean Alpert. They danced the "Salty Dog Rag" with help from Jen Taylor, Julie Calderon, Kay Weston, Adrian Loehwing and Matt Markell.
I look forward to more good news this fall! I'm back at Dartmouth for a masters of comparative literature. Just couldn't stay away.
