Reunion Recollections: Although it is August as we write, the pleasant atmosphere of the June reunion lingers on. And Ned Lords amazingly prompt and beautifully prepared newsletter recapped the event memorably. The classmates numbered 14, including Nancy Elliott, who effectively supported the highly efficient management of Bob McDonald and Mary Jo.It was nice that Jane Hart, Dot Manchester Jean Meek and Ray Theriault found it possible to be with us for the unique and festive occasion. Our large identifying "D1933" signs elicited enthusiastic recognition on all sides and especially from the gathered thousands as we led (wheel-chaired, limped and strode) the procession to the Commencement ceremony. DB Voorhees won the nod for the member traveling the greatest distance, making the jaunt with DB Jr. from New Braunfels, Texas. Few were aware that our reuners included three Dartmouth backstroke swimmers:
Helmholz, noted Mayo Clinic medico; Wachs, Sikorsky helicopter expert; and your correspondent. The Rev. Bob James arranged and presided effectively over the class memorial service in beautiful Aquinas House, offering exquisitely phrased prayers in remembrance of departed classmates. Class agent Rip Ripley, with the help of a remarkable surge of generosity, at the 1953 class dinner proclaimed to President Wright and other assembled notables the achievement of the class in attaining our class gift of $70,000. Wachs, elected our new president, spoke feelingly of his Dartmouth heritage at the class meeting. All hands joined to thank former president Sprague and former treasurer Cunningham for their years of faithful service to the class and College and regretted the absence of Mannie and Chalant.
