We're right down to the wire again on the Alumni Fund Drive and there are not many more days left for those contributions to get to Hanover and still count for this year's Green Derby.
No need to go into great detail on the importance of this annual drive to the College. You have all received mailing pieces written with a great deal more clarity of expression than my feeble efforts. As a class we have always responded enthusiastically and with a marked degree of generosity. To a man we may well be proud of our record. But all records are made to break. We have every reason to believe we will finish on top again. Let's make it a record-breaking performance in which every man participates. We have only until June 30. Mark that date, and if so far you have forgotten to send in your contribution, please do so now. Believe me this is no drum beating appeal. I'm just like every manjack of you. When it comes to Dartmouth and its welfare I'm a pretty sentimental guy. 'Nuff said.
At the moment I'm looking forward to a trip back to Hanover for the annual class officers' meeting. Lew Johnstone, "Stu" May and I will meet in New York and make the jaunt to Hanover together.
News this month is not plentiful. However, let's get going and see what we do have. The announcement of the engagement of JimPage to Mrs. Ruth Spinney was made in February. Jim is currently employed in the Mineral Deposits Branch of the U. S. Geological Survey in Washington, D. C.
George Flather has recently associated with two others in a general law practice in Washington, D. C.
The William English 2nd family have a new little baby daughter Kathleen, born March 18. Bill and his family live in Naugatuck, Conn.
Nice to hear about those fortunate enough to get back to Hanover once in a while. Visitors not so long ago were Clayt Gray, Ed Martin and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Austie Baker and Bob Tepper.
The Bruce Friedlichs got away from it all for a while this winter via a flying jaunt to Jamaica, and they made it a real vacation by leisurely returning by ship. (My Navy training sticks—l still won't say boat.) "Fritz"Cluthe is living in Short Hills, N. J. now. Whoops, Stacy Hill reported that in DFTDB —well it doesn't hurt to overlap once in a -while.
Hank Palmer is a Yankee turned Rebel, living in Roanoke, Va. Bob Simmons is still in Washington, D. C. Bob Simon is living in Ballston Lake, N. Y.
Through the courtesy of Bob White, the noble president of the Dartmouth Club of Northern California, I received a copy of their annual directory. Over 20 members of the class are in the San Francisco area. Want to know who they are? O.K. here goes— " Nick" Carter, Owen Chamberlain, Art Chimiklis,Bill Clark, Jim Curtis, Bill Danforth,Jim Eckels, Dick Engelbert, Bob Hamilton,Holden Higbee, Tom Lawley, John MathysJr., Willard Miller Jr., Dean Paterson, MyronPollack, Ted Redington Jr., Don Ross, JohnTate, Bob White and Frank Woodward. Quite a little group, and the wonderful part of it is they see a great deal of one another and their numbers keep swelling each year.
Sorry to say that will have to wind things up for this month. Sketchy, I must admit, but hope I'll have a lot more news from and about all of you next fall. Remember the June 30 date. We need everyone's assistance to put over the Alumni Fund Drive.
