"Doors give us clues about how important a building is," says architectural historian Marlene Heck, a senior lecturer at the College. Venerable Webster Hall—now Rauner Library—boasts one of the most elaborate doors on campus (top row, third from left). Berry Library's plain doors (bottom row, left), designed by contrarian architect Robert Venturi, are deliberate exceptions to the rule. All the doors are identified on page 23.
