Her parents gave Emily Sohn '97 a plane ticket to Andalucia,Spain, as a graduation present.During the flight the new gradmade a list of everything shewanted to do: live in a foreigncountry, conduct environmentalresearch, learn another language, teach science to kids andlead outdoor adventure trips.Now she's doing it all as sciencewriter for Classroom Connect'sQuests, an online classroomresource for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. During three six-week trips—hikingthrough the Amazon jungles ofPeru, biking through Turkey andGreece and recreating Columbus's landing in the Bahamasand Cuba—Sohn and her team ofeight explorers have interacteddaily with hundreds of thousandsof schoolchildren via the Web."When I'm on a quest," she says,"I'm working all the time, but it'slike I have to go swim with thedolphins and then go to anAfro-Cuban dance performance.And what's better than seeing itall through the eyes of children?"Funding for future Quests is currently in doubt, but Sohn hopesto retrace Lewis and Clark's journey in the fall.
