Carol IpsenAlpert,M.D., Smith '73, a cousin of John Blatz and the mother of Kathryn Alpert '07, shared with me at a local alumni event in Albany that she visited Dartmouth rather often as an undergrad. She'll have no trouble finding her way around while visiting her first year daughter, Katy, this fall.

Errata: Reed Greene, an attorney in San Antonia, Texas, dutifully informed me that his former Thetford House roommate Jack Dovidio, provost at Colgate, is a psychologist, not a sociologist, as incorrecdy reported in the last issue. Although it's no reflection of the state of his law practice, Reed has four copies of the 1973 Freshmen Book for sale or trade for Dartmouth glassware. Best offer to cgreene@satx.rr.com.

Bob Haynes, along with many other mens hockey fans made the trip to Albany for the 2003 ECAC Hockey Championship last March. I saw Bob and his father at the Dartmouth Club of Eastern New York reception following the semi-final game against Harvard.

Our sympathies to the family of Al Pfister, who died suddenly on November 7,2002, in Washington, D.C. where he was a cardiothoracic surgeon at Washington Hospital Center. Al had a M.S. in human genetics from Rutgers and a medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He pioneered the procedure of operating on a beating heart to decrease the potential side effects of heart surgery using cardiac bypass. Al is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and four children. His obituary appears in this issue. A more extensive report on Als remarkable career as a heart surgeon will appear in our class newsletter.

George Kidder has joined the Charlottesville wealth management firm of A.N. Culbertson & Co. as vice president. His responsibilities include client service and investments. George knows Charlottesville well, having received an M.B.A. from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. He lives in nearby Ivy, Virginia, with his wife, Katherine, and their three children.

The New Hampshire Business Review spotlighted Chet Homer's entrepreneurial spirit. Chet's been involved in the turnaround of a couple of small businesses, has owned Shawnee Peak ski area in Bridgton, Maine, for nine years, was a part-owner of the Portland Pirates American Hockey League team and at one time owned part of a large insurance company. He's served as the second in charge at the Tom's of Maine healthcare products company in Kennebunk and is chairman of Ocean National Bank. But at Shawnee Peak you may still see Chet parking cars and bussing the tables, two ways he stays in touch with his customers and his employees.
