The men's lacrosse teamshocked the lacrosse world this spring by winning its first Ivy League title in 38 years. The team suffered through a winless season just one year ago but defied expectations to rise to the top of the Ivy standings this season, culminating in a hard-fought win over Harvard in May. The players credit their success to teamwork and determination. "Nobody believed that we had a shot," midfielder Casey Burlage 03 told The Dartmouth. "But together we decided to prove everybody wrong."

Next year marks the 30th anniversaryof the demise of the Indian symbol atDartmouth. With that in mind, the Student Assembly has instated a T-shirt trade-in program, born out of a week-long discussion series held at the beginning of spring term 2003 regarding the controversial emblem. Students and alumni now have the option of exchanging any Indian symbol T-shirt for one bearing the word "COLLEGE"—at the expense of the Student Assembly. "While the number of people wearing Indian T-shirts is by no means large, we still wanted to provide an opportunity to exchange for those who do wish to do so," says Amit Anand '03 of the Student Assembly.

Dartmouth ranked 87th among the nation's colleges and universities receiving federal money for research and development in 2001, according to National Science Foundation statistics. The College received $70 million of the $19 billion pie, which equates to a 24 percent increase over the amount Dartmouth received in the year 2000.

In other news, John J. Donahoe '82 andR. Bradford Evans '64 have been elected to five-year terms on the College's board of trustees....Dartmouth canceledits scheduled summer Foreign StudyProgram in China after the Centers for Disease Control issued a SARS-related travel advisory in April....Paul Danos has accepted the offer to serve a third four-year term as the Tuck School's dean....Megan Fehely '03 is the first Dartmouth woman to win a boxing match, a feat she accomplished as a member of the Dartmouth Boxing Club in April.
